Marie Sergeant

Senior associate

Holding a double degree in French law and common law obtained in Paris, she pursued an in-depth academic career, completing a Master’s degree in International Business Law and Tax Law (FACO Paris), a Master’s degree in European Union and Corporate Law (Université Paris-Sud), and a Master’s degree in General Private Law with a specialisation in Civil Law from the Université libre de Bruxelles, which she obtained with the highest distinction.

Before joining the Bar, she worked for several years as a Senior Legal Advisor for an international insurance group (AVIVA – Abeille Assurances), after gaining experience in law firms, private companies, and the Ministry of Justice in Paris. This dual experience in both corporate and law firm environments has strengthened her versatility, which is now a key asset in providing strategic support to her clients.

A member of the Brussels Bar since 2022, she began her legal practice at the LINKLAW law firm. She was also the recipient of the 2024 BOELS Prize, which recognises excellence in advocacy and the drafting of legal submissions.

Trilingual in French, English, and Dutch, she provides both advisory and litigation services in the following areas.

She practises civil law, particularly contract law and contractual and non-contractual liability.

She also handles general commercial law, including transfer agreements, drafting articles of association and procedures relating to companies in difficulty (bankruptcy, judicial liquidation, judicial reorganisation).

She also specialises in lease law, a particularly dynamic area, whether it be common, residential or commercial leases.

She also practises private international law, particularly in cases involving foreign elements.

Trained in alternative dispute resolution (ADR), she favours a pragmatic, solution-oriented approach whenever possible. Her goal is to offer her clients an effective legal strategy that combines anticipation, negotiation and control of legal risk.
